Movie:Namastey London (2007)

Director: Vipul Amrutlal Shah
CAST: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Upen Patel, Javed Sheikh, Parvez Khan,Tiffany Mulheron, Nina Wadia, Bobby Deol,Shaana Diya, Ritesh Deshmukh

A British brat meets a Funjabi boy and they are off to London….itni simple si love story..Ah huh!! There is a lot more to this one. Director Vipul Shah’s previous movies Aankhen and Waqt were based on stage plays and they were shot on studio sets whereas Namastey London was shot all over London and Punjab (India).

About the Story: Jazz (Katrina Kaif) is a brat, born and brought up in Phoren. She thinks partying and drinking in pubs is all that there is to life. Here, Papa Manmohan Singh (Rishi Kapoor) enters the scene and demystifies the generation gap.

Movie Review and links:

  • Bollywood Buzz.com :The movie draws sympathy to all its characters in pieces. Initially, people feel for Jazz aka Jasmeet (Katrina Kaif), then towards Arjun (Akshay Kumar), Manmohan Singh (Rishi Kapoor) etc. Namastey London is a standard NRI film which exploits foreign locations and Indian emotions to the maximum.
  • Sulekha.com: Namaste London takes off on the dilemmas faced by non-resident Indians (NRIs) who seek the good life abroad but want their children to live like good, middle class Indians and of course marry the person of the parents’ choice. They suddenly realize that the children no longer listen to them.
  • Wikipedia.org: Namastey London opened to a good reponse and mainly picked up rhythm after the second and third day of its release, a major reason being the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The film did better in the northern parts of India especially in East Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
  • IMDB: It Endorses the family values which are fast disappearing in todays world. Reaffirms that if you love or work sincerely, without expecting any returns, you may truly get what you set out to achieve. Brilliant performance by Akshay
