Millions of players all the time have heard time and time again that out of all the casino table games; blackjack is the one that is the most popular to play. There are many practical methods and systems on how to learn this popular casino game however some players result to card counting in order to gain an edge over the casino. Although card counting is illegal, it is not wise to use as if caught; casinos can ban you. The secret in order to be successful in the art of playing blackjack is to learn basic strategy for hitting, standing, doubling down and splitting pairs. All players need to do is set aside some time to play well and this will help your money go a lot further in the casino.

The Aim

The objective to win blackjack is very simple; you need to beat the dealer. You can even beat the dealer with a mere total of just 12, which is very far from 21 but the dealer could go bust. Once you start playing and become a more experienced player you will often just make sure you are as close to 21, however as a novice player all you need to do is beat the dealer’s hand.

Rules

Blackjack is played with one or even more standard 52-card decks, with each denomination assigned a point value. The cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value; however Kings, Queens, and Jacks are each worth 10. Aces can be used as either 1 or 11. Most games in casino use four, six, or even eight decks, after being shuffled the cards are then place in a receptacle called a shoe, from which the dealer can slide out one card at a time. Single- or double deck games, which are most common in Nevada blackjack, may be dealt from the dealer’s hand. Once the cards have been dealt, players decide in turn how to play out their hands. After all players have finished, the dealer plays according to the set rules. The dealer must draw more cards to any total of 16 or less and must stand on any total of 17 or more.

Hit

If you hit, then you take another card or cards in the hopes of getting closer to 21. If the player then exceeds 21 after hitting the player goes bust and loses the bet.

Stand

Players that choose to stand will elect to draw no more cards in the hope that the current total of their card will beat the dealer.

Double Down

You may elect to double your original bet and then will receive only one more card regardless of its denomination. Some casinos actually restrict doubling down to hands in which your first two cards total 10 or 11.

Split

If you first two cards are of the same denomination, then you may choose to make a second bet equal to your first and then split the pair, using each card as the first card in a separate hand.
