Thousands of Indian families across Canada and the U.S. will gather together to celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights and start of the Hindu New Year. This year, the actual day of Diwali falls on November 1st.

Diwali Celebrations in rest of the world

United Kingdom: The Indians are the second largest ethnic minority in Britain. To get rid of the feeling of missing their homeland, especially during festival times, the Indians here celebrate most of the festivals .The occasion is marked by visit to the local temple to worship the shrine of Lakshmi, which they have made for Diwali. Eating special sweets, burning of incense sticks, lighting the home and surroundings and the blowing of the conch shell follows the prayer session in the Lakshmi temple.

DIWALI 2008 : Divali falls on a new moon day in the month of October or November. Since the precise moment of the new moon falls on different dates depending on geographical location, the date of Diwali also depends on one's location.
